Gardener
--bioGarden--
BioGarden is looking for a Gardener to build, maintain and continuously improve the garden, plant and soil systems across the Showroom Garden and Villa Garden, the GWF Kitchen Garden, and the outlet green areas in Penestanan. You will grow, care for and harvest 100% organic produce, keep the compost and material cycle turning, and leave every area guest-ready. The work follows clear daily, weekly and monthly routines, with field supervision and coaching from the Garden Operations Manager. New Gardeners are trained through a coach-led 28-day onboarding along a structured skill ladder.
Responsibilities
- Care for the Showroom Garden and Villa Garden as your primary focus, plus the GWF Kitchen Garden and the outlet green areas in Penestanan (HealthyUbud, Schauberger, IceCreamShop).
- Check plant health daily across all assigned areas, control watering and irrigation, and report deviations early.
- Prepare and handle soil and growing medium so structure and fertility keep improving.
- Sow from seed, plant seedlings into prepared beds, and propagate new plants from suitable parent material.
- Rotate the nursery so only strong, healthy plants stand in visible areas.
- Weed beds without harming crops or soil, and apply coconut and wood mulch correctly.
- Prune Bougainvillea once a month to produce outlet-ready, revenue-generating cuttings.
- Prune or exchange the outlet plants every two months.
- Refill the spray machine safely and spray as instructed — execution only, pest-control decisions stay with the manager.
- Harvest, wash, sort and pack produce to the required outlet quality.
- Build and maintain the compost systems — four to start, expanding to seven — keeping balance, structure and biological health.
- Apply the monthly inputs: 8–10 bags of woodchips, biochar and cow manure.
- Prepare incoming garden material — especially paper, wood and coconuts — and operate the shredder safely to turn it into mulch and compost input.
- Move material and cuttings with the tiga roda along the garden routes.
- Carry out the garden's small builds and repairs: bamboo supports, beds and natural structures.
- Leave every work area, tool and material store clean, structured and guest-ready.
- Confirm each completed task with clear photo evidence, and record complete garden processes on video for training and content use.
- Document maintenance routines, compost logic and care cycles as checklists another person can follow.
Requirements
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in tropical conditions for a full day.
- Full-time presence — the gardens need daily ownership, not occasional visits.
- Comfortable using a smartphone to read the day's tasks, confirm them and take photo evidence of the result.
- Willing to complete the coach-led 28-day onboarding and a 90-day probation with a written KPI review.
- Able to operate a shredder, spray machine and tiga roda safely after training.
- Careful and consistent — 100% organic practice, no shortcuts and no non-organic inputs.
- Able to follow instruction precisely; planting and pest-control decisions stay with the Garden Operations Manager.
- Able to write simple checklists and routines, in Bahasa Indonesia or English, that another person can follow.
- Gardening, permaculture or agriculture experience is an advantage, not a requirement.
- Based in or able to commute daily to Penestanan, Ubud.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Calm, reliable and consistent — the same standard every single day.
- A systems thinker, not a one-off task doer.
- Proactive rather than reactive, anticipating water, pest and soil problems before they become emergencies.
- Willing to own the assigned areas, so the gardens stay stable even when someone is away.
- Careful with living things and with tools.
- Open to feedback and happy to be coached.
- Curious about growing into extended skills: microgreens, grafting, beekeeping, mushrooms or poultry.
What We Offer
- A full-time position with real ownership of the garden and soil systems, in a 100% organic garden that supplies the BioBali outlets.
- A coach-led 28-day onboarding, so you are trained rather than left to figure it out.
- A clear 90-day probation KPI with a written Pass / Improve / Fail result — you always know where you stand.
- Room to grow the system itself: from four compost systems to seven, and preparation for future animal integration such as chickens and rabbits.
- Extended skills added individually once the Basic ladder is complete: microgreens, grafting, beekeeping, poultry, mushroom, water treatment and guest hosting.
- Clear written routines, checklists and standards, so you always know exactly what "done" means.
Success looks like
- Healthy, strong plants across every visible area.
- Self-sustaining soil and compost cycles.
- Clear routines and checklists another person can pick up.
- Fewer emergencies and fewer manual fixes.
- Gardens that work as systems, not as projects.
Standard of done
The task is executed as instructed · the area is guest-ready · tools are cleaned and stored · the work is 100% organic · photo or video evidence of the result is recorded.
